Submissions

Thank you for considering submitting your piece or pitch to Dynamic Zero! We publish regularly on topics related to the left and the COVID-19 pandemic from a socialist perspective.

We accept submissions from the general public. Per our charter, submissions from SCORE members and official statements from the organization are given preferential treatment (i.e. they will be generally processed first).

We accept the following format categories:

  • Letter: 400-1200
  • Articles and Book Reviews: 1000-2500
  • Long-form: 2500+ words (longer pieces may be serialized)
  • Poetry/Art: considered on a submission-by-submission basis
  • If you have work that falls into another category, please reach out!

To make efficient use of our editorial board's capacity, we will accept a limited number of long form and serialized articles per a year.

Submission Instructions

Write an email to pandemic.organizing@gmail.com with "PITCH:" in the subject line with some info on what the PITCH consists of. If your pitch is time sensitive (meaning less than 1 week turnaround), write "[TIME SENSITIVE] PITCH:". We do not currently have any funds for contributor payment and all editors are volunteers, but we would like to change this!

Prospective Pitches

Give us a 1-2 paragraph summary of what the piece is about and why you are the right person to write it. We will get back to you soon!

Full Piece Submissions

When you submit a full piece, please follow the instructions below.

  1. Attach the article as a Google Doc (or a similar service) and grant editing permission to pandemic.organizing@gmail.com. This way we can interactively edit the piece with you.
  2. Include full resolution images and figures in a link on Google Drive or a similar service so that when the article is published the quality is not severely degraded. Please attach photos using lossless compression (i.e. PNG) if possible.
  3. Include a short author biography.

By submitting to Dynamic Zero, you represent to us that you own the copyright for the submitted work and on acceptance grant Dynamic Zero a world-wide royalty-free license to display and excerpt from the work for editorial and commentary purposes.

Our Obligations to You

We will let you know if your piece is accepted or not in plain language and once it is accepted, we will let you know the scheduled publication date.
